The Experience : Feeling Good in Raw Denim

The Experience : Feeling Good in Raw Denim

We've never liked an impatient feeling. There's no pleasure in restlessness. Feeling good in raw jeans is easy. The indigo is the climax, not the end. It's denim in its most natural and purest form. The excitement is seeing how things play out. There's no processing; it's never been washed or processed. Their look changes throughout your time wearing them. So much so that no two pairs will ever look exactly the same.

The texture is stiff in the beginning, but never unyielding. You'll truly feel the grain from one caress of the hand. As you live in them, they'll soften and take shape, surrounding you in ways you never considered from a garment.

And because of this, they require some breaking in. You have to wear them– a lot. Wear them until you can't go on any longer. Then wash them when you're ready. When will you be ready? How well do you know yourself?

For some, that's a month. For others, it's 6 months. It depends on how often you wear them, how long you wear them, and where you wear them. Only you can be the judge of what's appropriate. Just know the longer you go, the deeper the whiskering. In the end, they will only fit you and display your behavior. It will be an eye-opening experience, seeing yourself and movement outward for the first time. Odd idiosyncrasies like standing back on your knees, overextending your pelvis, pulling on your belt loops, and stuffing your pockets will become apparent in their expression. A raw pair shows the grace in our movements and lives, not the judgment from the outside world.

For an even fade, wash them once a month. For whiskering in the seat and rise, honeycombs in the knees, creasing in the pockets, aim for 3 to 6 months of wear before the first wash. The stress within that duration is enough to see visibly lighter abrasion and contrast. If you want to take it to the next level and go an entire year, we're excited to see your results!

To wash them, it's similar to our wash instructions for rinse-washed denim. Hand washing is always our recommended method. It extends the denim's life and guarantees that the water isn't too hot. Cold water is best, and we wouldn't go any further than lukewarm for any denim.

A detergent that's gentle and dissolves quickly is the standard. As with everything we preach, less is more. Too much detergent, and you're trapping dirt and oil in the fibers. If you want to maintain a deep indigo, dark wash look, wash your jeans with 1 cup of vinegar and 1 tablespoon of salt in a tub of water. It's incredible what natural household products can do. In our experience, the vinegar wash is king. You're submerging your jeans and your hands in the tub. They'll get clean, and your skin will thank you.

Ensure your cleaning agent is completely dissolved in the water before dropping your denim into the tub.

Turn them inside out and wash them alone. The indigo will run and dye anything that's washed with it. Soak them for 45 minutes in your tub, making sure they don't float to the top. Finally, rinse and hang dry.

*Side note: Be careful where you sit or what you brush up against while wearing them for the first month.*

The build, the climb, and the progression all come from you. This is our take on a more personal, intimate experience in jeans. It's you as a woman embodied in a pair of jeans. You don't have to be nice and gentle, just intentional.
